We watched a good test video for HDR, “My Blender Simulations in HDR.” In it, the pure black backgrounds looked great when viewed from the sweet spot.

The RCA Roku TV shows a mediocre input lag of 38.2 milliseconds under most conditions, but turning on the Game mode to improve performance at the slight expense of picture quality cuts that down to an excellent 15.4ms. (Note: Yes, we’re aware The Witcher is available in 4K HDR, but that’s not how we watched it.). The RCA 65-inch Roku 4K TV is a welcome entrant into the more affordable range of 4K TVs, but this model falls flat due to some poor design choices, such as awkward port placement and a backlight that limits HDR support. The Roku remote included is serviceable, but uses IR. The glowing red eyes of Homelander in his drug-house raid at the opening of the Season 1 finale looked spectacular enough, with the glowing red eye lasers brightening up the scene only for it to quickly fall back to black. Some of this lackluster HDR support can be attributed to the display's brightness.
It's a very affordable 4K TV (the 50-inch RTRU5027 we tested has a list price of $599.99, but it can easily be found for under $400) and its colors are accurate out of the box, but lackluster contrast holds us back from recommending it more highly.
